Black Rock Roller Disco 2014 Videos: Olympic Skater and Synchronized Segways

September 26, 2014

Today’s Burning Man 2014 videos feature the Black Rock Roller Disco which hosted some celebrities at Black Rock City in 2014.

Yes, Black Rock City has its fair share of wealthy luminaries and they tend to travel by Segway.  In fact the past two years I’ve seen Paris Hilton ride by on a Segway–not once but several times over the week. And no I don’t have photos to prove it–I was too busy doing my own Burn to interrupt hers. However, when I pointed her out to one of my neighbors, he chased her down and got her on video where she neither denied or confirmed her identity. I can say that the Airport folks say that when she was a Birgin she rolled in the dust and clanged the bell like a good sport–even though I guess a lot of celebrities by-pass this and other Burning Man traditions.

Anyway, this year at the Black Rock Roller Disco, some Segways rolled by and stopped and well.. watch the video above and see! As Dee, the Godfather of Skate, writes:

At the Black Rock Roller Disco at Burning Man 2014, it’s kinda like the song, Car Wash”. There ain’t no tellin’ who you might see, a movie star or maybe even an Indian chief. Check out Will Smith and crew as they encounter the Black Rock Roller Disco!!!

The Black Rock Roller Disco is one of the most loved theme camps at Burning Man. We build a roller skating rink in the desert and it’s the happiest place on the playa. We were very proud and honored to have had Italian ice figure skater and Bonze medalist Carolina Kostner present this fantastic skate performance in memory of a friend who recently passed. Enjoy and share!!!

I first saw this video on Facebook and I asked David if he would post it on You Tube so I could share it here. On Facebook, it has had nearly 5,000 shares so I can imagine it’s had 50,000 or more views by now! BTW, someone else scraped (posted) it on YouTube before Dee (aka David Miles) and so that video has the thousands of  views that this one, the original deserves. So if you decide to share, please share from this blog post OR from his original you tube video.

Congrats to Dee the Godfather of Skate and his crew for winning this award for having such a fabulous theme camp this year –and for so many years running!

PS If you reblog this, please don’t scrape the whole thing. Please only use the first 20 words or first paragraph or so. Thanks.
