Macworld Ho: what’s next? where’s the party?

January 7, 2009

There’s really too much going on at Macworld to take it all in. It’s kinda like Burning Man for Mac users but out there on the playa people wear little and what they do wear is outrageous and wild. Here  just about everyone is wearing a black jacket, jeans and tennis shoes (and testosterone).  Really. It’s a Black Sea. It’s like the black suit coat is the new white labcoat for mad computer scientists! (The women, if they are working a booth, show cleavage and leg. The “Delicious” women wear white blouses unbuttoned almost to the navel with black bras with white lace, tight black short skirts, fishnets, and black high heels…librarians they are not!)

Just the people watching could keep me occupied–that is, the folks not in the uniform…for example, I just watched a 40 something man absentmindedly blow a bubble (using gum) while riding down the escalator…and I’ve seen literally hundreds of people ride UP the escalator wearing white satin and pink bunny ears (gotta get me some!!) I want to score some pens too. I wonder if anyone has moleskin notebooks? or are those too low tech for this crowd? I fell in love with mine at WordCamp when I won one for putting a WordPress tattoo on my leg…hmmn hmmn hmmn

People have been checking me out too. I’d like to think it’s my black boots, flirty skirt and periwinkle sweater. But really, they are into my Macbook Pro’s orange skin decorated by my 5 year old with colorful foam animals and my Lettre Sauvage card with “Art Predator” for all to see.

Believe it or not, I am taking a systematic approach: I went right over to the Hess Memorial Macworld site presented by Ilene’s Machine to know where to go and what to do!

Tues 1/6 wander wide-eyed the halls of the massive expo

Tues 1/6 2-3pm So 104  Marketcircle Inc. Press Conference: Daylight for iTouch/iPhone (for bloggers & press)

Tues 1/6 3-4pm  So 104 Incipio Technologies Press Conference: creative iPod cases (for press)

Tues 1/6 3-5pm So Microsoft Lounge Booth #632 Guy Kawasaki Reality Check book signing

Tues 1/6 6-?pm Jillians MacRumours & iPhone Alley party

Tues 1/6 9-? iSkin Party Featuring: DJ Solomon Location: Fluid Ultra Lounge 662 Mission Street

And last but not least:

Tues 1/6 8-11pm the infamous Macworld Blast open to Everyone who ponies up: Tickets $40 includes 2 drink tickets & raffle entry. Register on site, 21+ only. Co-sponsored by CDW, Lynda.com, & AOL.

Hmmn, 3 sessions, 3 parties! Sounds puuuurrrrfect to the Art Predator!

Next questions: what to do tomorrow? and will I have the nerve to do a low-tech series of interviews using my laptop?????? (Dare me, anyone??)

    I am daring you!
    what about MacArt?

The MacArt is pretty cool, Annamari. The whole expo is full of eye candy, and there’s a gallery of digital art that I hope to look at more before I leave.

ps gotta admit, 3 parties is 2 too many! so we’ll have to see about taking you up on that dare…
