Halloween: When Ghosts Walk

GHOST WALK highlights the local history of the Santa Clara River Valley and provides a thrilling evening outdoor theatrical experience.
GHOST WALK features many talented local performers including Rasika Mathur who co-created the Thomas Fire piece we performed at the Lobero Theater Oct. 6. Rasika will also be on stage in downtown Ventura when the Downtown Ventura Organization and Open Classroom present the 7th annual Harvest Moon Spooktacular on Saturday, October 27. from 11am-7pm in Mission Park and the 200 block of Main St. — yes they will be closing it down to make it safe for the kids. Enjoy live music, carnival games, food and shopping vendors, a haunted house, kids zone with bounce houses, all ages costume contest, and Got Rhythm dancers.
They also sell the best pumpkin bread and have a silent auction. Dress up! It’s fun! And they usually do a Thriller or two.
And even earlier on Saturday morning– how about a costumed BEACH CLEANU-UP? Surfrider hosts monthly cleanups but for October, you’re encouraged to don festive attire! Meet on the Promenade at the end of California Street. Organizers say, “We will provide supplies, you provide the stoke! We will be having a special raffle with some really rad Costume prizes!”
Or if you’d rather hike, head up to Two Trees on Sat. from 4-6pm. RSVP then meet at the entrance to Barlow Canyon off Foothill Road. Due to the nature of the terrain the hikes can be considered moderately difficult and out-and-back up and down steep slopes. The distance from Barlow Canyon to Two trees is approximately 1.5 miles with an elevation gain of 716 feet taking, on average, 60-90 minutes. You must:
- Wear proper attire for the weather on the given day. I.E. Halloween costumes.
- Apply sunscreen.
- Wear appropriate footwear.
- Keep an appropriate pace.
- Bring water or a sports drink for hydration
Visit the permanently preserved land in the Ventura Hillsides and take in incredible views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands and the Cities of Ventura and Oxnard, and the Los Padres National Forest and Topa Topa Mountains to the North and Santa Monica Mountains to the Southeast. Learn the story of the land, History of Two Trees, facts about wildlife and more during the hike. Pre-registry is required to attend the event. Notes: Hikes will be rescheduled in the event of bad weather including rain or extreme heat. All guests are requires to sign waiver of liability at the onset of each outing. Hikes are limited to 100 guests. Parking space is limited to 30 vehicles so guests are urged to consider carpooling.

For the kids, agricultural Ventura County offers plenty of pumpkin patches to visit! Our favorite was always at Bocalli’s in Ojai where you can also enjoy a wine tasting, the best pizza, and all around great Italian food while sitting outside either on the patio or on the grass under the trees.
There’s definitely something for everyone this weekend!
