Five Reasons To Register and VOTE Nov. 6
And why is it so important to register and to vote?
Millions of Americans support public lands and we are being ignored. Millions of Americans hike, hunt, fish, and camp on our public lands. Our public lands also provide 66 million Americans with drinking water.
To help save our democracy we MUST elect leaders who listen to we the people.
In the 2014 midterm elections, only 36% — about one third — of the eligible voters showed register, showed up, and voted. That’s the lowest turnout since 1942 — when World War II was going on.
If we don’t vote, we don’t have a chance.
I understand why, during World War II, it would have been hard to vote. We were at war.
But today there is a war going on too — a war waged against people and planet for profit.
We must show up.
So why should you vote?
There are a multitude of reasons but here are five on my mind today that matter immensely:
- One, climate change is real — it is not a hoax — and we need to get serious about it:
- U.N. climate report shows civilization is at stake if we don’t act now
-
The Midterms Have the Power to Usher in an Era of Climate Action
Trump and the fossil fuel lobby can stall for time. But change is coming faster than you think.

- Two, check out this NY Times story or the one from the Atlantic about attempting to redefine people out of existence– and what are they going to do about non-binary folks?:
- Against a Federal Registry of Genitals: A report that the Trump administration plans to define gender based on the appearance of infants runs counter to developmental biology and individual privacy by JAMES HAMBLIN
- Trump Administration Eyes Defining Transgender Out of Existence: “The new definition would essentially eradicate federal recognition of the estimated 1.4 million Americans who have opted to recognize themselves — surgically or otherwise — as a gender other than the one they were born into.”
- Three: where to even start? does this image convey it all? How did someone accused of sexual assault get on to the Supreme Court? How did someone who BRAGS about sexual assault get elected to the White House? WTF is the GOP doing messing with women’s reproductive health? And yes, I do think this relates to point #2!
- Four: Address pollution, on sea and on land; we can ban fracking and take plastic pollution seriously. This is of course related to the #1 problem of climate change.
- Five, there’s the inequality of our economy which you can read about in this article from Scientific American and being Scientific American you can imagine there’s plenty of charts and graphs to explain the science and the numbers but here’s two — and yes, if you ask me IT’S ALL RELATED :
