Let Curiosity Be Greater Than Fear: Pema Chodron
“Let your curiosity be greater than your fear,” says Pema Chodron as reproduced in this image using a detail from an artwork by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo.
As you reflect on this quote in the context of your life and your goals, consider:
What are we afraid of? How did we lose our curiosity? What keeps us from being stuck in our ways? On our phones? On the couch? What keeps us from getting out into the world and taking risks with our writing, our words– and our actions? What prevents us from being the best person we can be?
Let curiosity be your guide. Allow your curiosity to conquer your fear.
Name the problem.
Reflect on solutions.
Take action.
Let’s transform the world.

ARTIST: Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo, one of the only westerners trained in the rare Buddhist art of silk applique thangkas, is passionate about the preservation and evolution of this Tibetan cultural tradition. His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave his blessings to Leslie’s work and encouraged her to make images that speak to the spiritual aspirations of people across religions and cultures. Leslie’s work is simultaneously traditional and contemporary, and her fascinating story is the subject of the acclaimed documentary film, Creating Buddhas: the Making and Meaning of Fabric Thangkas. Leslie mentors a select group of students around the world through her Stitching Buddhas Virtual Apprentice Program, and her Weekly Wake-ups provide a thread of inspiration to set the week on the path to awakening.
I believe that this quote embodies the true human spirit because without curiosity I personally don’t believe we would gotten anything done if we lacked curiosity. I always like to go back to discovery of fire and how when you smashed two rocks together that are either fit ,granite or flint than you get a spark and when you put that spark next to dry vegetation or plant life than you have fire. In my blog post I talk about a graphene solution that would allow super capacitor batteries to be so much more efficient than we could rid ourselves of every other type of lithium or alkaline battery in a instant. We do not get to where we are off of luck, we have to be the innovative and creative thinking people we truly are on the inside, and to worry about the fear of failure could do more than stop a person, it could stop a civilization or stop countries from doing the progressive things that are needed to improve quality of life.
