August 29, 2016

Speak to a random burner!! Call a Playa phone! 973-737-BURN(2876) Or answer the phone!

While the massive art installations on the playa like the Man,

are what attracts so much attention from the press and the citizens of BRC, it is the magic to be found on every street and in every camp that makes Black Rock City so great.

For example, this telephone (above) where you can speak to a random burner by calling (973) 737-BURN(2876) or if you’re in BRC, you can answer the phone at 9:10 & I in front of Octothorpe, half block from duck pond and a few other sound camps. My friend Johnny Utah’s camp (420 and C) usually hosts a phone box where you can talk to God (but not this year) and where he shows the art made from his San Quentin prison students.

Everyone probably has heard about all the bars at Black Rock City, and while the parties are plentiful,  you can find pancakes,

Pancake Playhouse

and coffee, and even fine French dining –if you get lucky and get randomly given a ticket!

And after eating and drinking you can get some ICE COLD mouthwash!

With or without a dust storm, weather depending!

And with a nice fresh mouth, you’re ready to kiss the bride after you get married by Elvis!

Just like in YOUR city, people like to watch TV:

the Mighty Zenith, a mutant vehicle that is a Tv set and a TV set for Tv shows

And just like in your city, most of Black Rock City quiets down at night–except for Center Camp and the “Esplanade” which is like Black Rock City’s “Main Street” and the outskirts at 2 and 10 (which have sound camps and a lot of RVs which dampen the sound). The Esplanade hosts theme camps like Pink Heart

and Skateboard Camp and the Roller Disco:

All this and more awaits those who wander the streets of Black Rock City.

How about Pokemon Go? Or even better, how about BurningMon Go?

Yes I’m sure you’ve heard of Pokemon Go. But BurningMon Go?

This year, both games are operational are out there on the streets of Black Rock City and on the open playa. But one doesn’t need an internet connection which can be tenuous at best in Black Rock City so can you guess which one YOU will want to play?

Ding, ding, ding: BurningMon Go!

Catch BurningMon while discovering art, mutant vehicles, and camps: there’s over 140 tiny burningmon figurines super glued around! Note the figurine # and exact location using pen & paper or snap a photo then stop by Camp Lazer Brigade  or email ericlake AT after the burn for a prize.

KNOWN BURNINGMON LOCATIONS: Check out their other awesome events here:

And as for POKÉMON GO AT BURNING MAN, organizers say: “As if we didn’t have enough ‘things’ to do while at burning man, there will now be a POKÉMON GO competiton to add to your pallete, GRAB SOME BALLS, CHARGE UP YOUR BATTERIES, we will all “MEET AT THE MAN” right ‘before’ the gates open – and will try to be the first one to CATCH A PIKACHU on the playa in 2016. There are some very special “MANAZNAR REWARDS” being given out along the way, so get ready for the BEST YEAR EVER… -brought to you by “Camp Pokémon Go”, come find us at 8:15 and “A” to ‘REFILL””
