Women Poets for Women’s History Month: Dian Sousa, SK Rolle, Lois P Jones

This Women’s History Month, celebrate with three women poets of the central and southern coast!

On Thursday, March 17 at 730pm, Los Osos’s poet Dian Sousa features at the EP Foster Library’s Topping Room 651 E. Main Street,  Ventura in a free reading hosted by Ventura County’s poet laureate  Phil Taggart; an open mic follows.

A surfer, wine lover, and environmentalist, Dian is the author of Lullabies for the Spooked and Cool (Mille Grazie Press, 2004) and her work has been published in numerous anthologies and journals including: Solo Cafe (Soho Press, 2005), Asylum Arts Annual (Asylum’s Press, 1994), and Chiron Review.

This Saturday, March 19 at 7pm, Santa Barbara’s Poet Laureate Sojourner Kincaid Rolle and Lois P. Jones feature at the Arcade Poetry Series at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard. Non-members pay $3 for admission.

Poet Sojourner Kincaid Rolle has called Santa Barbara home for over 30 years and is the City’s current Poet Laureate. She hosts a monthly reading series, The Poetry Zone, and is also a Poet-in-Residence at the SB Museum of Natural History. Her poems have been published in a number anthologies and she is the author of seven collections of poetry including Common Ancestry, Black Street, and the Mellow Yellow Global Umbrella.

Los Angeles area poet Lois P. Jones has work published or forthcoming in Pirene’s Fountain and Cultural Weekly, as well as anthologies including The Poet’s Quest for God (Eyewear Publishing), Wide Awake: Poetry of Los Angeles and Beyond (The Pacific Coast Poetry Series), 30 Days (Tupelo Press) and Good-Bye Mexico (Texas Review Press). Some publications include Narrative, Tupelo Quarterly, The Warwick Review, Tiferet and Cider Press Review. She is the winner of the 2012 Tiferet Poetry Prize and the 2012 Liakoura Prize. In 2015, her poem was long-listed in The Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition. She is Poetry Editor of Kyoto Journal, host of KPFK’s Poets Café, co-host of Moonday Poetry and interviewer at American Micro Reviews and Interviews.
