Burning Man 2017: how to visit BRC from home

August 29, 2017

Black Rock City from the air: center camp cafe is about in the dude’s armpit and his head obscures the Man but you get a sense of the layout of the City with lateral streets numbered and encircling ones in alphabetical order and named to compliment the year’s theme

By today, Tuesday August 29, most of the residents have arrived to the Black Rock Desert two hours northeast of Reno Nevada, and most of the ephemeral community of Black Rock City is built. From all reports including this one the City is as amazing as ever. But NO  2017 Burning Man SPOILERS in this post! You’ll have to wait!

Or watch this webcam… if you can’t! https://burningman.org/event/live-webcast/

You can also listen to BMIR — Burning Man Information Radio which is LIVE 24/7 during Burning Man.

If you have friends who are following that dream and will be at Burning Man this year, and you know their address, here’s how to send a letter to someone at Burning Man; if you send me a note along with a self-addressed stamped envelope and I’ll try to write and send you something back from Black Rock City!

Gwendolyn Alley aka Art Predator (your friend’s regular name and playa name)
Elvis Wedding Chapel (your friend’s village or theme camp if they are in one)
7:30 Plaza (address in Black Rock City)
c/o BRC PO9 (BRC PO)
PO BOX 149 (BRC PO Box in Gerlach)
Gerlach NV 89412-0149 (the closest city in Nevada to BRC)

If you have anything you’d like taken to the Temple — a note or small object — send that along and I will gladly deliver it for you. MUST BE MAILED TODAY Tues. August 29 to get there on time to be delivered!

Read about the early days of Burning Man.
Read about the need for the 10 Principles.

This year to aid us with understanding and practicing the 10 Principles, there’s a brand new, fun COLORING BOOK with illustrations by Yhali Ilan and text by Larry Harvey which you can print out for yourself! And while you’re at it, print out a few extra copies and bring some extra crayons so you can share them with your neighbors while waiting in line at GATE! https://blackrockcity-education.pbworks.com/w/file/119462358/burning%20man%20coloring%20book.pdf

Someone asked me once what do you DO at Burning Man? basically I ride around on my bike day and night having grand adventures and experiencing the best art show on the planet! You have no idea what you might find out there!

So what will I be gifting? In addition to bringing 14 coupe glasses to make a tower as well as four bottles of Riondo Prosecco to fill those glasses for wedding celebrants at the Elvis Wedding Chapel AND sharing a bottle of Two Hands Sexy Beast Cabernet for Cabernet Day (as well as plenty of other wine!) I will be teaching people how to make their own magical mouthwash, making and sharing mouthwash, and giving our these stickers with the mouthwash recipe!

Because heck! One of our best radical rituals is that of a wedding ceremony — and one of the best parts is “You May Kiss The Bride!” And this way brides and brides and grooms and grooms and brides and grooms etc will all have nice fresh breath!

Here are some other ways you can recreate Burning Man from home. It’s pretty funny… and it’s really quite accurate!

While there are MANY videos about Burning Man out there, I recommend the ones by Halcyon including this one:
