Burning Man: LA Regional event “Blissmas” in January and “Bequinox” in March
I’m Dreaming of a White Blissmas…
-
On Saturday January 9, 2016 from 6pm – midnight is the LA Regional Burning Man 4th Annual Blissmas held this year at the ArtChurch in LA.
- Dress in white, of course.
-
At this BEquinox participation grant fund-raiser, browse through the proposed projects for BEquinox 2016 and vote to determine how much of the $15,000+ grants will go to each participating project.
- Each person who buys a $20 ticket to Blissmas gets 10 tokens that may be used to vote for one, or several of the projects represented.
-
Attendees at Blissmas will also be voting on the Effigy that will burn at BEquinox.
The dates for BEquinox are March 17 – March 20, 2016. The event opens at noon on Thursday March 17, 2016 and closes at 2pm on Sunday March 20, 2016 at Joshua Tree Lake Campground. Prices TBA.
Theme for BEquinox 2016 is ANIMALIA. Organizers write:
Our BEquinox 2016 Theme asks you, the participant, to celebrate the diversity of life by listening to your sacred animal spirit within and allowing it to speak out, dream, and BEcome reality. Will you BE furry, scaly, smooth, or something yet undiscovered?
“Our world is populated by living creatures great and small, from the tiniest of single-celled beings to massive subterranean fungi that may stretch for miles under our feet. The true scale of life remains undefined as new species may be discovered floating free in the air, swimming the waters, crawling upon the land, bound deep within the earth or on undiscovered worlds in space.
Contained within each living creature are structures that incorporate sacred geometry and a double helix of instructions that define life. These geometries, the basis for structure and patterns of life are mutated into a vast array of varieties of life forms and the possibilities are endless.
There is movement. Dance upon the earth, swimming in the seas, and flying through the air. Animals become totems, our spirit guides, and yet others are a pestilence upon the land. We care for animals and they care for us. We find divinity and we worship them.”
While I’ve been to Burning Man 16x since 1992, and I’ve been involved with several LA Decoms, I have yet to attend either of these events myself in the past. I can say that I’ve heard from some that they prefer BEquinox over Burning Man or that BEquinox is more like Burning Man used to be: smaller, more intimate, more participants, fewer spectators, and with more moderate weather and a lot closer to LA.
And it’s always fun to hang with Burners.
Let’s see if I achieve escape velocity and make it to one or both of these events. Will you?
