53 Interesting Facts About the Number 53 #14: Ringo Starr’s 53 Beatles Postcards
This week’s Interesting Fact About the Number 53 is inspired by Ringo Starr’s induction last night April 18, 2015 as a solo artist to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
- Ringo Starr’s 2003 book Postcards From the Boys contains 53 postcards from fellow Beatles
A few years ago, Ringo discovered a treasure trove of photos and postcards from his days with the Beatles. He selected 53 of these postcards for From the Boys and discusses specifics including time and place while sharing stories and memories using a tape recorder. These transcriptions, complete with non-sequitars, became the book’s text.
Printed in a limited edition of 2,500 by Genesis Publications, the regular edition costs $495 while numbers 1 through 350 are deluxe editions at $840. Ringo says he will donate his proceeds to the Lotus Foundation, a charity that supports women’s and children’s causes.
Fellow Beatle Paul McCartney did the honors; the Beatles as a band was inducted years ago, and Ringo is the fourth and final Beatle to be inducted as a solo artist.
“When you’re in a van, and you fart, own up,” Ringo Starr said at the induction. “It’ll cause hell if you don’t own up because everyone will blame everyone else. Make a pact that you’ll own up to it. We did and that’s why we did so well.” Words of Wisdom from: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/15-best-moments-at-the-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-2015-induction-20150419#ixzz3Xp9MSQfJ
In this December 2014 clip, McCartney tells Jimmy Fallon which songs are his favorites and they both do Beatles impressions.
Congratulations, Ringo!
