Happy Birthday Dr Seuss! Let’s Read!

March 2, 2015

Today is the birthday of Dr. Seuss! A big Happy Birthday to you where ever you are!

To celebrate, below is a Burning Man video version of  his book Oh The Places You’ll Go which includes the words

“Today you are you
and that is truer than true.
There is no one alive
who is youer than you.”

Another way to celebrate is to participate in “Read Across America.” About 15 years ago I taught in a teacher training program and many of my students helped organize events where they had Dr Seuss reading marathons and other activities. I read  The Cat in the Hat with gusto until my voice was gone!

The first book I read aloud was by Dr. Seuss: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. This was followed by reading many more books by Dr Seuss –I’m not sure whether I was reading them or they were memorized…

So today, read a Dr Seuss book aloud together with someone: it’s fun! Or read anything with anyone!

Or watch this video of Oh the Places You’ll Go.

“You have brains in your head
you have feet in your shoes
you can steer yourself any direction you choose!
