This Saturday, January 31, The Flying H Theater Group presents the first installment of “Is that a poem in your pocket or are you just happy to hear me?”
And I am one of the featured poets!
Starting at 7pm, this intimate theater venue will offer a free/donation evening of poetry with Tree Bernstein, David Wright, and myself plus an open mic so bring along your favorite poem, or one that you have written, to read.
I hope you can join us! It should be a great evening!
Tree Bernstein is a fellow faculty member at Ventura College who hosts her own poetry series In Ojai while David Wright is also an accomplished actor who frequently performs in Flying H productions. We will each read for approximately 15 minutes; I’m planning on reading my poem on water (read an excerpt here), a poem about Vietnam war veterans, one of my primer poems, and a few poems from the 3:15 experiment (which will require me to type 2014’s up!)
The Flying H Group Theatre Company is located in a strip mall in Montalvo: 6368 Bristol Rd. Ventura 93003 (between Johnson and Victoria). From the 101 Freeway: Exit JOHNSON Dr. (not Victoria), head down the ramp. Make a left at the first stop light which is Johnson Dr. then make a left on Bristol Rd. Plenty of easy, free parking! For more information about the theater or the event, go to www.flyinghgroup.com (under Sensational Sideshows).
Next on the Flying H Group schedule: Sam Shepard’s Geography of a Horse Dreamer for four weekends in February starting February 6. January’s Fool for Love by Sam Shepard was excellent so I hope to go see this one as well–I’m a big Sam Shepard fan. The theater company has six Ventura County premiers scheduled!
If you want to get in on the “act” ion yourself, check out the Monday night acting workshops with director and theater founder Taylor Kasch.
Want more poetry? Every Thursday there’s a reading at the EP Foster Topping Room on Main in downtown Ventura starting at 730pm with an open mic after.
