2015: Get on the Good Foot
Hello 2015! It’s time to “Get on the Good Foot”!
How? Start this video from the first season of Soul Train back in 1972 and get moving and grooving to James Brown’s funk classic “Get on the Good Foot” –his first to go gold.
That’s what I did this morning when Jason Bentley played “Get on the Good Foot” on KCRW following an NPR piece on James Brown’s drummers, Clyde Stubblefield and John “Jabo” Starks who created the distinctive funk drumming on many of James Brown‘s biggest hits. John “Jabo” Starks is credited with drumming on “Good Foot” — a two-part single that charted #1 R&B and #18 Pop and appeared on the album of the same name; Billboard ranked it as the No. 99 song for 1972.
Not motivated yet? Get inspired by James Brown’s amazing moves when he performed “Get on the Good Foot” live on Soul Train:
Coming up: movie reviews by Ron Wells of Wild (based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir of hiking 1100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail –and which I hiked all of), The Imitation Game, Mr Turner, The Theory of Everything, and Foxcatcher plus some cool astronomy news, a few thoughts on the untimely death of author Michele Serros, and how to participate in a twitter event.
Yes, after a holiday hiatus, I’m back to blogging!
Happy New Year!
