How do you “show up” to your ambitions? Most of us have this fantasy in our minds of this great ambition that is so far out of our line of vision that it might as well be a fairy tale. Nobody really has a path there, and if they do, it probably won’t work for you. If we try to be a part of some 12-step program that leads us to our far far away dreams, we will probably relapse at some point and then forget we were ever a part of a program. Zhena Muzyka tells the story of her dreams and how she fought to achieve them against all odds in her book Life by the Cup.
Opportunity knocks for everyone. We just have to show up, as Muzyka writes.
“By showing up you are taking an action, and actions are what bring results, whether or not you are competent yet in something. A thousand ideas come and go in our minds, but the ones we actually make a move toward are the ones that pay off, even if we don’t know exactly how to get it done,” Muzyka teaches us (36).
Zhena Muzyka Presents “Life By The Cup”
“Life by the Cup is a true story that stretches from single motherhood and hard times through unique personal success. Pour a cup of tea, open to the first page and find a friend who will teach you: Your hopes are a form of planning.” — Gloria Steinem

Zhena’s website states that “As an advisor, author and motivational speaker, Zhena Muzyka turned her passion for tea, belief in herself, and love for life into a successful career helping women realize their dreams of business ownership. Drawing from the depths of her experiences in turning her background in aromatherapy and talent for blending tea into the multi-million dollar Zhena’s Gypsy Tea®, Zhena inspires her audiences with energetic messages about entrepreneurial spirit, empowerment, and social and environmental responsibility.
Zhena embraced her rich Ukrainian Gypsy ancestry, relying on the teachings of her Gypsy grandmother to help her alter fate as she sold tins of her custom tea blends from a small cart on California street corners when her infant son needed a life-saving kidney operation.”

My students who chose this book for their book club, my husband and I all love love love Life By The Cup. After the Book Club presentations, many of the students were enthusiastic about reading it because it’s engaging, inspiring, thrilling, encouraging, and so descriptive that readers feel like they are doing it themselves.
And Zhena is a fabulous speaker–I heard her February 2010 at a Women’s Economic Ventures event which I blogged about here. We are all so excited that Zhena will be coming to Ventura College for our last day of class!
By the way, this book, some tea, a special cup, and a foot rub would make a fabulous gift. Offer to read it aloud to your special someone! Books should be available for signing at the reading or pick one up before –it’s available widely.
