Record Store Day 2011: some thoughts

Saturday April 16  is Record Store Day! Join Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in supporting local independent record shops by picking up a copy of the limited edition 10″ vinyl single featuring “Gotta Get That Feeling” & “Racing In The Street (’78)” from the December 2010 “Songs From The Promise” concert in Asbury Park, NJ. The Foo Fighters are doing an in-store performance at Fingerprints Record Store in Long Beach, CA. Wristbands were given to the first 200 people who pre-ordered the new cd last week.)

Locally, Salzer’s offers to the 1st 60 in line a bag full of goodies, especially prepared for Record Store Day, with lots of exclusive freebies and promotional stuff. Salzer’s opens at 10am and the free shopping bags are a record store day collectible. According to Salzers, the bags vary and the best ones are the first ones given out.

Also in Ventura, Buffalo Recordson Laurel at Santa Clara will celebrate Record Store Day with loads of super-rare releases ONLY available at participating indie record stores PLUS a free live show featuring:The Action Index

Buffalo opens at 11am; bands start at 2. Plus they’re filling the bins with loads of great rare vinyl items in addition to all the official Record Store Day releases.

Grady’s Record Refuge opens at 11am and a day of guest DJ-ing scheduled starting at 1pm plus a raffle. DJ’s include Rossangeles, Jeff Grimes, and jazz legend Chuck Cecil! Grady’s will also be carrying many of special RSD releases. American Pie Records is new and off the beaten track at 1412 Tower Square #2, Ventura, CA 93003. Rumour has it they’ll be participating too.
