“If you want to feed your family healthy food,” says  Patagonia’s founder, Yvon Chouinard, “you’ve gotta ask a lotta questions.”

Helping to answer these questions and aiming to change our relationship with the land and oceans is a new 25 minute film by Chris Malloy, Unbroken Ground coming soon to a Patagonia store near you.  See schedule below.

Unbroken Ground documents how what we eat connects to climate change, and shows us how food plays a critical role in our efforts to solve the environmental crisis. Patagonia Founder Yvon Chouinard, Wes Jackson of The Land Institute, filmmaker Chris Malloy and Birgit Cameron, Director of Patagonia Provisions, examine our current relationship with food in four areas. Watch the trailer below.

In addition to the film, at these in store events you can sample Patagonia’s line of organic, sustainable foods sourced from those featured in the film, and at most screenings hear a panel of experts including the filmmaker discuss the film and the issues it presents.

Patagonia Founder Yvon Chouinard, Wes Jackson of The Land Institute, filmmaker Chris Malloy and Birgit Cameron, Director of Patagonia Provisions will be on hand at the Ventura event on July 7.

As a food and wine blogger on Wine Predator, as a parent, and as an educator, these issues concern me a great deal. As a child, I wrote about ladybugs and litterbugs, and started backpacking and rock climbing at 12; as a teen I taught mountaineering in Colorado, and I was one of the first 20 women to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. As a student, I earned degrees in Environmental Studies and in Literature/Creative Writing with an emphasis in nature writing and in Ecopsychology, and as a professor today I teach college composition at a community college where students research and seek to solve environmental problems.

There are lots of great events this summer in SoCal that I will be posting about in the next few days. Read all about them and more about environmental advocacy and concerns: subscribe!
