“Go Forth And Set the World On Fire” — lowdown on Burning Man 2016 tickets

March 23, 2016

“The firebrand is the person who recognizes what is natural, what is organic, what is alive and vital in life, the person who dares to live, to be, and to create, often in the face of interference, rejection, deceit, and betrayal. The firebrand is a burning ember, life that is in each of us and that 11800175_10207406869273296_4725292785267170157_nprovides the spark and energy to speak against what distorts, hides, and denies our being and truth. It is that which awakens within us, when we must declare our independence or when we discover a new formula for living.”
–Clark Moustakas

Today is a *Lunar Eclipse* (more on the astronomy here) Full Moon in Libra (more on the astrology here).

Fittingly, it is the day tickets go on sale for Burning Man at noon. And that’s why I included two “up in the air” videos with this blog post.

Because like with the eclipse, you will probably miss out. Sorry!

Those who have submitted a Burner Profile before the Friday deadline will have the chance to get

  • one of 30,000 tickets at $390 each
  • one of 10,000 vehicle passes available at $80 each,
  • You can buy a maximum of two (2) $390 tickets and one (1) $80 vehicle pass.

BUT

  • Participation in the Main Sale requires registration which closes at Friday, March 18, 2016.
  • You can only register to buy tickets in the Main Sale if you have not previously bought tickets through the Directed Group Sale.
  • The Main Sale starts at 12pm (noon) PDT, Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

Many thousands of people will be disappointed.  For those folks, here are the options:

  • Wednesday, March 2, 2016 Low Income Ticket Program application opens
  • Wednesday, April 13, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: STEP opens to participants submitting $390 tickets & vehicle passes
  • Wednesday, April 27, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: STEP opens to participants wanting to purchase $390 tickets & vehicle passes
  • Wednesday, May 25, 2016 Last day to request delivery/shipping changes
  • Mid-June Ticket order delivery begins
  • Sunday, July 17, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: STEP closes to sellers
  • Friday, July 22, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: STEP closes to buyers
  • Wednesday, July 27, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: OMG Sale ($390) registration opens
  • Friday, July 29, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: OMG Sale ($390) registration closes
  • Wednesday, August 3, 2016 12pm (noon) PDT: OMG Sale ($390) starts

Fortunately, theme camps, which are integral to the Burning Man experience, already bought a number of their tickets through the Directed Group Sales.  Many of my friends have already secured their tickets this way (although there is not a guaranteed ticket either and I know people who have also been disappointed).

This program was developed after Burning Man started to sell out and theme camps found that some of their core members lacked tickets. This program also encourages people to create theme camps –and to clean up after themselves so that they can get DGS tickets the next year as they are only available to theme camps in good standing. Last year, we went because we were able to get tickets through the theme camp we worked with the year before; in 2014, we were working on that theme camp even though we didn’t have tickets yet! That was very stressful. This year, we are probably not going to go because getting tickets is so challenging.

Instead of going to Burning Man this year, which we are up in the air about, we are definitely going to Lucidity

which I wrote about yesterday. Nope, it’s not the same. Not even close. But it is nearby. And it is a fun festival. And it is still possible to get tickets (remember ARTPREDATOR when you do!). So if you’re bummed about not getting your Burning Man ticket, consider joining us at Lucidity or one of the smaller regional Burning Man events!

So go out and spark it up –whether you get your Burning Man ticket or not, go out and PARTICIPATE!

Going just once to a Burning Man is on my bucket list. But I have no idea when I plan to try! It’s never the right year, somehow, since I moved back to CA.
