Happy 5th Bloggoversary to Art Predator!

November 4, 2012

To the Reader, without whom all is Vanity. —James Hillman‘s dedication to Revisioning Psychology

On the night of the time change five years ago on November 4, 2007, my husband put our son to bed, and instead of returning to watch a movie, he fell asleep.

Not one to sit around idly, while I waited for him, I started to learn more about blogging, and specifically WordPress.

Four hours plus the bonus time change hour later (yes I watched it go from 1:59 to 1:00 again!), I had this blog, Art Predator with this same header, an about page, and a couple of posts including this one about how I became Art Predator.

This here is my 1347 post.

From the beginning of this blog, I published an eclectic range of posts that heeded Coleridge’s call to seek the aesthetic–which engages the whole soul–and to prowl for stories from art to poetry to wine to food to Burning Man to travel to music to politics to artrides and a little of everything in between. I spun off other blogs to focus on some of these interests including Wine Predator, Bikergo Gal, Compassionate Rebel, The Write Alley, and Whisper Down the Write Alley plus my son’s blog Red Rex! I hope you’ll go check them out and subscribe!

My most page views on one day came in February 2008 when a post about the lunar eclipse when viral and Art Predator had nearly 3,000 page views. The blog readership grew steadily, moving from averaging over 100 a day in 2008 to over 350 a day in 2009, then closer to 300 in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as I added other blogs, and became busy with other social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

In 2011, I also returned to graduate school for a PhD in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in Community, Liberation and Ecopsychology and this seriously has cut into my time to blog. I just haven’t had the time to maintain all these blogs like I used to or I’d like to. But I’m still getting over 400 page views a day just spread out on different blogs, my Wine Blog is in the Top 100 in the world and my Klout is in the top 5% in the world.

Over the past five years, being a blogger, specifically a wine blogger, has significantly changed my life. As a lifelong writer, I love having a platform where I can easily publish my poetry and ponderings as well as recipes and reviews. My writing has taken me to Portugal, Egypt, and Washington State, as well as brought me cases and cases of wine, shelves of books, and other perks including supportive underwear for my husband and eye cream for me!

Thank you for giving Art Predator over 463,000 page views since I started this blog on the night of the time change November 2007! Happy 5th Bloggoversary to me–and to you! Cheers!

Here’s what I’ve been busy writing and you’ve been busy reading:
