According to Longchenpa, “Life Is Not As It Seems Nor Is It Otherwise.” Longchenpa (1308-1364) was an important spiritual leader, philosopher, teacher, and writer of Tibetan Buddhism. Many of his works are currently in print in English translations.
Tomorrow is one of the most important Buddhist celebrations–Vesak, or Buddha’s birthday.
In some Buddhist cultures, Vesak was celebrated last month. But for the Vietnamese and others, it will be celebrated Sunday, May 31.

Did you know that US Census figures from 2010 say that 53% of 15- to 44-year-old women are mothers? Not sure the percentage that is sleep deprived but I bet it is most of us…
In 1994, Census Data indicates that 53 percent of these moms were in the labor force. And if they had a bachelor’s degree, that figure was 70 percent. I would imagine that more recent would indicate that even more moms are working these days.
Whether or not a mom is working outside of the home, moms are pretty hard working.
And we couldn’t do it without the help of other moms who step up when we can’t be in three places at once OR without the women who do not have children of their own who also help make it all happen.
So let’s give it up for MOMS–whether you birthed the babies, raised the babies, or just were there to help us– here’s to YOU! Cheers and thank you!

Ozomatli Hits Ventura During Music Fest

In Ventura, Grammy award winning band Ozomatli performs at Ventura College on Sunday May 3, at 3pm as part of the 21st Ventura Music Festival which runs from May 1-9 at various venues around town.

RIP Ben E. King “No I Won’t Be Afraid”
Another giant in music has left us only with memories that linger within us like melodic timelines in our own lives.
Because water is on a lot of people’s minds, what with the drought and climate change–it even made the President’s speech at the White House Correspondent’s dinner last night and I met today with a group of poets and performers to work on a piece on what we are thirsty for– this week’s interesting fact about the number 53 is that 53% of the human body by mass is made up of water.
And because this is Earth Month and National Poetry Month, I’m going to throw in a segment of a poem on water and 6 easy conservation tips (with more to come). Read more…
