Today & manana: dias de los muertos plus a pan de muertos recipe!
Curious about dia de los muertos? Want to make some Day of the Dead Bread aka pan de muertos but need a recipe?
What follows is one of my very first blog posts from November 2007; it will answer both of your questions–and give you some links to poems to read as well including 3:15 poem “If I Died at 55” which is in my new poetry collection Middle of the Night Poems From Daughter to Mother :: Mother to Son (available NOW in chapbook form; available in December bound from en theos press).

Happy Halloween! What are you dressing up as?
If you’re looking for an easy dish to bring to a holiday gathering and wonder what wine to match, wonder no more!
Last night I made this simple yet delicious pumpkin soup while we worked on our son’s dragon costume and even though I had my doubts, it paired wonderfully with a 2007 Ghost Pines Merlot. The recipe follows along with more tasting notes.

The Women’s Conference 2010: waiting & watching
While I did get my new poetry book into the hands of Maria Shriver, nothing went as I thought it would at the 2010 Women’s Conference…

From a Scary Smelly Skeleton Pirate: Happy Halloween 2010!
I am a scary smelly skeleton pirate!
I wonder where the treasure is
I hear black rusty shooting fire cannonballs
and swords slapping
I see other English ships to get their treasure
I want treasure, a golden compass, and a gold ring
I am a scary smelly skeleton pirate!
I pretend to play swords with you
I feel my bones cracking
I touch the shark’s teeth
I worry about my pirate ship
and how it will disappear one day
I cry when my boat tips upside down
I am a scary smelly skeleton pirate!
I understand that I know that you can be killed
I say aye aye matey, I believe in ghosts
I never dream about black treasure
I try not to kill my pet octopus
I hope to be free
I am a scary smelly skeleton pirate
Written by my son Reed when he was in kindergarten…along with some of his classmates! Here we are when he was in preschool–he’s a skeleton and I’m Ms Frizzle from the Magic School.
He and I made the following video in 2008 as well…he was 4, almost 5:
“Middle of the Night” Arrives!
Today while I was getting fitted for the outfit I will be wearing for the Style Network makeover Monday at the Women’s Conference and buying a few things to wear there too, two different print shops were working hard printing up materials for me to bring: one was putting together a special edition chapbook of my 3:15 experiment poetry collection (due mid-December 2010) while the other printed bookmarks and business cards. Very exciting! Here’s more details about the book along with the covers (yes, covers–plural!)

Here’s the complete poem.
After many years of talking about it, I am finally going to release a collection of my 3:15 Experiment Poetry.
No, it’s not the infamous Love and Terror at 3:15am manuscript that I’ve been working on since I started the experiment in 2001.
This 3:15 Experiment collection of poems Middle of the Night Poems From Daughter to Mother :: Mother to Son had its impetus from two recent events: my mom’s death the day before the 2010 3:15 Experiment commenced and my selection for a makeover and to speak at this year’s Women’s Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center next Monday night October 25, 2010.
Because the poems from summer 2010 didn’t fit into Love and Terror thematically, and because the Women’s Conference would connect me with many many women who would relate to and appreciate this collection, the last few weeks have been very busy with selecting, editing, organizing and proofreading the manuscript Middle of the Night Poems From Daughter to Mother :: Mother to Son which is being published by en theos press (Seattle) which also published between sleeps: poems from the 3:15 experiment 1993-2005 which Danika Dinsmore and I edited.
Pictured is a photograph by Alan Sailer which we are using for the cover. You can order yours now from en theos press! More news soon!
