Nic Harcourt to Leave KCRW
Well, I guess this Thanksgiving I should be grateful that Nic Harcourt devoted 10 years of his career to KCRW, the public radio station from Santa Monica City College.
And I should be grateful that he quickly figured out that we wanted more Beck-like music and less industrial techno stuff and Brit-pop.
And I should be grateful it only took two years for him to learn how to say Ventura (the “t” is NOT pronounced like the “t” in adventure–it’s short for San Buenaventura, named after the Spanish Mission here established in 1789, and so has a Spanish pronunciation).
And I should be grateful that he will continue his weekly show–whether it will be live and handpicked music or what I don’t know yet, but I will be listening in on Sunday nights from 6-9pm (and then be happy for Gary Kalamar!).
And I am grateful for all this.
Still, I am very disappointed that he’s leaving the live radio airwaves at KCRW for greener pastures (much greener than public radio at a community college station, I am sure.)
Here’s more about Nic Harcourt and the role he has played in my life over the past 10 years.
Here’s the announcement:
KCRW’s Music Director Steps Down
After 10 successful years as host of Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW’s signature music program, Music Director Nic Harcourt is leaving to pursue independent projects.
If you would like to send a note to Nic, please share your thoughts below and here.
Nic Harcourt will continue with the station, hosting a 3-hour show on Sundays from 6-9pm
