writing in a dream: a new poem

January 3, 2008

in the dream i was a man writing in a cafe.

this morning i could remember the words

i was writing i was sure i would always

remember the words i was writing

but this afternoon i have forgotten

them: they are lost in all the other words

of the day. this is what happens if you

only write down words in a dream. they must

be written down in this world too. they say

we cannot read or write in a dream but

in the last few weeks i have done both. try

it yourself write read remember your words

keep them: write them down in this world & that

    i’m glad you enjoyed it!

what’s amazing is you read it and commented immediately after i posted it–and since i just wrote it it means you were the first person ever to read it–and what is even more wild to me is i don’t even know you!

I read and write in my dreams, too! Every once in a while I even write it down first thing in the waking world, but most of the time I forget right away…like the time I walked through endless underground catacombs to view the inscriptions on an ancient stone tablet…the words escaped me.

It’s interesting … this writing – the dream of writing and the dream of forgetting the writing and both of them as words dreaming.

Well it happnes too, you dream of something and then you forget it as you are unable to process it consciously.
