Word Crimes, Book Reports, Works Cited
Weird Al Yankovic is performing in LA Sat. Oct 29 at the Shrine Auditorium as part of the Supreme Festival, so this morning, KCRW played his 2014 hit “Word Crimes” which not only parodies “Blurred Lines” brilliantly but also teaches some great grammar lessons!
Which also ties right in with a certain hashtag and memes related to last night’s debate: #TrumpBookReport

Bob Dylan Wins 2016 Nobel Prize in Lit
With Desert Trip aka Oldchella happening last weekend and this, no surprise that the esteemed artists performing there are on my mind–and on my favorite radio station, KCRW.
Living just north of Los Angeles, we would have definitely attended if we could have gotten tickets; we’ve attended Coachella twice (2002 and 2003) and we have tickets for 2017. Even with 70,000 other fans, it would have been worth it to experience these bands, some of them for the first time for me.
At the last minute, last Thursday, we were able to score tickets to see The Who at the 4500 seat Santa Barbara Bowl, my first time seeing The Who. I never thought I’d see them and then in such an intimate beautiful venue as the Bowl, just a quick 30 minute drive up the coast. I could have gotten a Who Desert Trip t-shirt but in the end went for one that listed the show in Santa Barbara and that celebrates their 51 years.
Today I had two more Desert Trip aka Oldchella surprises: Read more…
On Friday, my son’s assistant principal pulled him aside to ask: “Have you really been to Burning Man? What’s it like?”
My 12-year-old son might as well as said it’s “MAGIC” because that’s the closest explanation there is: it’s almost like opening your eyes and finding out that you’re really a wizard and that you’re attending Hogwarts and not the middle school across the street. Read more…

Regenerative Agriculture: Now in a beer can near you!

Did you know Patagonia, the revolutionary clothing company, is now trying to revolutionize food?

Just as Patagonia got people to think about the life cycle of clothing, and to get businesses to donate 1% of profits to the planet, Patagonia is now taking on FOOD. Because, as Yvon Chouinard shared last spring in Ventura, clothing companies are too slow in changing and the planet needs our help desperately. He argues that since food production is causing so many problems for climate, we need to change what we eat.

And not just what we eat, but what we drink too!

Vin Scully Calls His Final Dodger Game

photo by Jim Friedman who flew up to San Francisco yesterday from SoCal to see the Dodgers play the Giants. The Dodgers lost but he was lucky enough to be sitting right below the Press Box. He briefly chatted with and took a few pictures of the greatest broadcaster ever!

Happy Hallowine and A Toast to Ghost Wineries
Happy Ghost Hunting Day! Cheers!

.
You might think of the month of October as Ghost Hunting Month, with the penultimate night of the month the perfect day to go out hunting for ghosts.
But actually the first day of October is National Ghost Hunting Day. (Who knew?)

Goals of National Ghost Hunting Day include raising public awareness of best practices and professionalism in paranormal investigation, increasing appreciation of local history and landmarks across the nation, and uniting and organizing a network of ghost hunting teams in common cause to benefit local Humane Societies and non-profit animal shelters throughout the country.
When I saw that haunted pumpkin wine label (above) for Flora Springs on Twitter, I was instantly entranced and knew exactly what wine would be perfect for Ghost Hunting: one from a Ghost Winery!
