WordCamp SF 2008: Good Will Virality aka Viral Virility
Hey, you! Yeah, you, the blogger in the trenchcoat blogger! Check this out!
Achieve Viral Virality by Ben Huh the guy behind LOL cats and FAIL blog didn’t wear the funny hat from the picture in the WordCamp program but he was still humorous, and gave people something to think about too.
According to Ben Huh, Invite Based Virality, like Facebook is Irritating, Spams your friends, and Sacrifices Good Will between you like a deadly virus (or Multi Level Marketing!) (Anybody disagree?)
Sustainable virality doesn’t force people to visit but builds reasons to invite; it invites readers to invite others.
Reasons for inviting:
create content
preferencing: voting
personal messages:
be transparent about comments
feedback and replies
Find reasons for your site and ways for people to interact with your site:
spread the message if you like what you find here, share!
track conversions: measure the gateway–how do people find your site?
Achieving viral virility means not being a dick! React to the conversation that’s happening in the internet!
(Dang! The link doesn’t work! He took the presentation down already!)

Yayayaya, brilliant. I kinda knew that but hadn’t heard it put so well. Great reportage, thankyou, Art Predator,
It’s a fine line at times.
I wish I’d been able to keep up better with his presentation because he had so much more to say. But since he’d given us the link to the presentation, guess I got lazy and then the info went poof! That happened with another presentation as well; it was up and so I didn’t worry too much about following all the technicalities since I knew I’d need to review it to get it…and now that’s gone. It was on microformats, really fascinating possibilities. WP is really great about keeping us on top of the latest developments!
