For Wine Wednesday: Wine & Food, Burning Man style! No whining!
As a certifiable wine blogger (having attended the Wine Bloggers Conference in 2008 and 2009!) and as an experienced Burner (12x since 1992!), I take seriously my responsibility of advising you, my dear reader, about how to prepare, what to do, where to camp, and now, what to eat, and what to drink while at Burning Man deep in Nevada in the Black Rock desert. I’ve been thinking long and hard about what I want to bring to eat and drink out there, and what I should suggest to you.
While there is no shortage of cocktail parties on the playa, there’s been a serious dearth of good wine–and wine tasting too. With an emphasis at Burning Man on art, and artistic and sensual experiences, it’s time to bring the art of wine to Black Rock City!
I invite you to come to the Art Predator camp at 515 DNA in Kidsville at 5:15 for Wine Wednesday.
Bring a glass, bring a bottle or two of the good stuff, maybe some appetizers, and let’s share some wine and stories together!
You know I will have some wine worth sharing! My nickname isn’t Wine Predator for nothing!

Pleasure Sean’s Playa Play List
@Pavati tweeted me a link to PleasureSean’s Playa Party Guide 2009 which is full of awesome info re dj music sets along with when and where including Cheb i Sabbah above and Nickodemus below:
Brass Tax Boombox (10:00 & C)
Yes, yes YES! Breakbeat, electro, whateva from the big ass boombox. Will be going Monday night, if not earlier, so come on out while everyone else is still setting up.
El Circo and The Do Lab (10:00 & B)
The El Circo dome is legendary and they are joining up with LA’s The Do Lab – should be epic. Music and crowd is kind of on the neo-tribal/hippie side with lots of glitch, dubstep, & breaks. Inside of the Dome is often super crowded, so late late night is a good call if you want to head inside.
AP’s note: I imagine this is the dome they use at Lightening in the Bottle as well as some of the set-up. From an email they sent today: View and print set times here: Simpler Times Set Times
Thursday Kick Off Party! We’ve got 4000 gallons of water ready to spray all over y’all for our kick off party on Thursday, September 3rd. Get wet and beat the heat! Then dance and get sweaty! All under the dome and pallet structures, boomin to the sounds of party starters like Imagika, Beats Antique, El Papachango, and many more.
NEXUS (10:00 & E)
Glitch/breaks music with style. Between the Boombox, Simpler Times, & Nexus, you could pretty much rock your entire playa nights between just these three camps – and many people will.
Root Society (10:00 & Esplanade)
Massive setup on the corner with 2 domes. Read more…
Ahh, the days of Saturday soccer: the chaos in the early morning hazy light, the smell of sunscreen and mud and torn up wet grass, orange rind smiles and juice boxes…
Is YOUR FAMILY missing that soccer game because you’re on the playa or THEY SAY you are too old for YOUTH SOCCER?
You’re never too old! Don’t miss out! Bring that soccer uniform, those shin guards, those bouncing balls, and other soccer paraphanalia to Kidsville’s Soccer Saturday on DNA at Art Predator’s Camp for totally non-regulated and possibly inebriated (exhilarated or confused by or as if by alcohol : intoxicated) Saturday Soccer!
The first 50 participants (whether they are wearing soccer pants or no pants, regular soccer shirts, Kidsville shirts or no shirts) will receive one of these special Kidsville soccer stickers!
What do you need to do to participate? Show up Saturday morning between 830am and 1130am wearing YOUR SHIN GUARDS, your dust mask, and your goggles! (Not a drop-off party or babysitting service–an adult needs to be about your children). Bring your own cup and something to share for a potluck brunch. Cold bubbly, anyone?
See you Saturday! What better way to start off the day of the BIG BURN? Watch for additional details on this and other fun Art Predator events on the Kidsville kiosk and here at https://artpredator.wordpress.com.
PS Thanks to our friends over at Def-Star Screen Printing (http://def-star. blogspot. com/) for helping us make these!

Time to Celebrate the Birthday of Lord Ganesha
From now until the full moon Friday Sept. 4 is the annual 10 day celebration of Lord Ganesha’s birthday.
To participate, place Lord Ganesh on a pedestal, then sing, dance, and adore him.
The traditional celebration culminates in the submergence of handmade earthen Ganesh, sending him on his journey back home to Mt. Kailish in Tibet.
Yesterday three women made cobb or earthen figures of Lord Ganesh. I will post a photo of mine soon!

Before You Leave for Burning Man: Top 10 To Dos, How To Get There & Where to Find What You Forgot
Silicon Village sent this Top 10 List of Very Important To Dos out to their camp and someone kindly forwarded it onto the Kidsville list. (Yes, Burning Man depends on the interweb for us all to be connected and communicate; there are no boundaries!) I’ve taken the Silicon Village list, and edited, adapted, revised, and commented on it, plus I added two bonus to dos.

How to Fur Your Burning Man Bike, How To Turn Your Bike Into a PlayaFly & other ArtBikes & ArtRides to go on!
I just got a kick stand for my bike!! Now to put a tennis ball on the end so it doesn’t sink into the playa! If you have some old tennis balls, hey, be a sport, and bring them–they’d make a great spontaneous gift!
Now, what, where and when will we ride?
I hope we get out there to join the Pink Ride shown in the video above: meet Wednesday noon at BatCountry 9:30 & Esplanade. And we’re organizing a First Friday ArtRide where we will also celebrate Lord Ganesha’s birthday and give out the bandanas we’re making with Lord Ganesha on them! Meet us in Kidsville at DNA and 510–you’ll know you’ve found the ArtRiders by the tie-dyed “prayer flags” flying with Lord Ganesha on them as well as a 6′ and a 12′ tie-dye banners! And don’t forget–Critical Tits is Friday also; meet at the Man at 4pm.
What will we ride? How about a fur bike? Or turn your bike into a PlayaFly?
Toni the Tiger can’t make it this year so she’s loaning us her tiger fur bike and matching trailer; I think my pink bike is festive enough already with all the doodads attached to it, and we’re working on a shade kinda thing for it too.
So you want to fur your bike? This video by Halcyon who leads the Pink Ride, though kind of long at almost 10 minutes, will show you how if you’ve got some fur fabric and a glue gun. This might be the kind of decor for a bike that rides to BMan in a trailer so as not to leave parts of it behind… Lynne from the ArtBarn wound and wrapped colorful used fabric around her bike in much the same way for a fun effect.
Roaming the internet, I found this site, Morristown Bikes, which had a post about ArtBikes at Burning Man.
The blogger writes, “One of the easiest and most memorable art bikes in the past year was a group of people who created “Playaflies” http://playaflies.com/ When traveling across the dark desert, they would bounce and dance and look like multicolored fireflies! The effect was great when it was a large group of them together. Watch here: Playa flies There are free instructions for building playaflies for your own bike, and you can buy the lights for just $15: http://playaflies.com/
