Art Predator Gets Best Mom, Ben Southall Gets Best Job in the World!

May 6, 2009

Above is the application video for the winning applicant for the Best Job in the World as Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. The announcement was made today, AUS time. Congratulations, Ben!

Ben has tons of energy and enthusiasm, and can actually write his way out of a box. He’s a published print journalist, he’s widely traveled and he’s used social media along the way. He does all the requisite sports, he’s charitably minded, he’s in his mid-30s, and he even has a BS.

If you’ve followed the contest at all, his writing, his enthusiasm, and his charisma on camera made him not only a very competitive candidate, but clearly the winner.  Although I think Erik R’s the best writer (he’s a professional journalist), creative and skilled with social media, it was obvious to me that they weren’t going to choose someone with a family.

Here are the twitter announcements from Queensland Tourism:

Congratulations to Ben S from the UK who will start with TQ as our caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef on the 1st of July.

Congrats to @Bensouthall, caretaker for the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. Video of announcement http://cli.gs/t1AVEm

So of course I still think I’m the best one for the job. Let me know if you have a great opportunity for me–I’m on the look out! I’m open to adventure and working hard! (Ben, if you need any help or want a family perspective, you know where to find me–here!) Watch my video here:
