No Room for Do Lab’s Lightning in the Bottle in 2009

April 16, 2009

What’s up for the Do Lab and Lucent Dosier after Coachella 2009?

Last year, we joined the throngs under the oaks in the hills behind Santa Barbara over a drizzly, slippery Memorial Day Weekend for the Do Lab’s Lightning in a Bottle. But this year, there’s no room to be found for the event, according to an email we received a few weeks ago. Why? we wondered. Guess we weren’t the only ones wondering:

It has come to our attention, based on the feedback from our last email, that we need to clarify our situation regarding Lightning in a Bottle. Many of you have written us heartfelt emails asking us to stay at The Live Oak Campground and limit the ticket sales so that the venue could accommodate the festival. It was originally our plan to continue to host LIB at Live Oak, but unfortunately this is not an option for us. The camp is a county park and the county has philosophical differences with our festival, which is completely out of our control. We did try to work through these differences with them, but unfortunately we were not able to do so. We would love nothing more than to have been able to stay there and throw LIB as planned.

LIB has also been growing over the past three years and we hear your concerns about not letting it get too big. The expansion that we anticipate will be natural and not forced so please know that we have every intention of maintaining the intimate family vibe and we are not setting out to turn this into a massive festival.

Our intention is, and always will be, to throw the highest quality event for all of you to enjoy. We are pursuing a few more leads for LIB this year but if it doesn’t happen in 2009 we promise you that we will be back next year. Thank you for your continued support throughout this process.

While it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for and expecting, it was a worthwhile weekend of music and speakers and we had planned to attend again in 2009 along with other friends with children so we could trade off adventures. Guess we’ll just have to wait until Burning Man and get our creativity fix here at home with our First Friday ArtRides!

As far as Do Lab and Lucent Dosier, I am confident they have a far-flung tour already lined up and I’ll be sure to post where, what and when here!
