Support Clean Transportation
Your Input Needed By March 20th!
The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) is putting together the transportation budget for the next year, as well as specific “unmet public transit needs.” The state of California just slashed funding for public transportation and transportation commissions across the state are struggling to figure out what will be funded. To make matters worse, at every level of budget discussion bicycles are almost not at the table.
Make sure that VCTC hears from you! Voice your transit needs so that they understand that clean forms of transportation are a priority to Ventura County citizens. It’s fast, it’s simple, it’s powerful.

Public comments for unmet transit needs must be received by March 20th, 2009.

In Ventura city I think that the Vista Bus to and from Santa Barbara should stop at Amtrak platform in order to facilitate multi modal use. Accordingly, a large bike rack should be installed at the Amtrak platform as well. Vista route for 126 should also connect to Amtrak and Montalvo train stations for the same reason. Gold Coast Route 12 needs to stop at the Vista stops where routes overlap or be moved to make the overlap in downtown and harbor areas. Route 12 should also stop at the Amtrak platform, not one block away from it. I also find it strange that some of the Vista buses on 126 route stop at the front of the Government Center while others stop at the rear along Hill. It makes transfers impossible and I have personally helped many confused potential riders navigate the distance between to get to the “other” bus. The importance of route 12 cannot be overstated, and funds for it must be found. The ridership goals set up under the grant were not realistic, but in today’s economy service to area hotels and restaurants is very important for workers in the hospitality industry. A taxi stand in downtown ventura would be a wonderful addition as would tons of bike parking and motorcycle parking near cross walks and corners that are currently unused spaces due to odd angles. Spaces next to crosswalks are much more conducive to that kind of parking that will not block views of pedestrians the way the large vehicles like delivery trucks currently do.
