Dead Weather: Will there be wind & water?

March 12, 2009

When I set sail
Will there be enough wind?

Will there be enough water
When my ship comes in?

from the song “Horehound” by Dead Weather

Fast forward 30 years from The Knack’s “My Sharona” and Bruce Springsteen’s masterful “The River” (1980) and you’ll land at the feet of Jack White of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs who recently announced a new project  Dead Weather fronted by the Kills Alison Mosshart, and with bandmates Dean Ferita (of the Raconteurs and Queens of the Stone Age), and bassist Jack Lawrence.

To get a taste of White Stripe energy, and to understand my enthusiasm fr the potential of his new project, listen to the following clip from a live performance at the last Conan O’Brien show. It’s a medley of several songs and shows off his energetic guitar playing and Meg White’s driving and enthusiastic beats. There’s no visual so turn the sound UP and get up from your computer and dance!

For more what Jack White’s been up to, read Jack White’s latest stripe from the LA Times March 12, 2008.

What do you think? Is it dead weather for you or is there plenty of wind and water for you to set sail?
