VOTE for CHANGE today Nov. 4 in CA until 8pm

In the United States, the divisive 2008 Presidential Election Day is finally, finally here!

Which means that hopefully by this time tomorrow it will be all over!

There are lots of people out there who, like me,  support change in the form of Democratic candidate Barack Obama but still aren’t sure how, when, or where to vote. It’s more common than you think—some of the people who have questions may be friends or coworkers.

As I’ve had regular hits on my blog of folks looking for election info, I’m including info here again, including not just where to go, but also what to do if there’s a problem.

Election 2008 Voting Information

Remember to vote (in California polls are open until 8pm—not just for Barack Obama, but for Congressional, state, and local candidates as well like Demo Hannah Beth Jackson who is supported by teachers, police, and the Sierra Club and is up against Tony Strickland, a Republican who is running as an environmentalist independent even though he has consistently followed Bush and has done nothing for the environment except raise the ire of environmentalists!)

There are a number of propositions on the California ballot as well. Eight of these are being banked by billionaires and have been written in a way to confuse the issues. One confusing proposition is 8: a no vote allows marriage for all. Please join me in supporting this proposition.

At noon in California, 60% of the electorate has turned out which is a huge number. I will take my son later today to watch as I vote and recommend you join me in voting the following:

Barack Obama: America needs to get out of Iraq and my womb! No more McPain!

Some Recommendations on California Propositions:

Yes on 2: Give farm animals some breathing room!

No on 4: There better reasons to confide in your parents that you need an abortion than being forced to by law.

Yes on 5: Rehab non-violent drug offenders

No on 6: More money on crime prevention programs, not officers.

Yes on 7: Increase use of renewable energy sources

No on 8: Anyone over 18 who is ready to marry should be able to.

No on 10: Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens spent $3 to get this prop on the ballat and much more trying to see it passed so he will make even more money! Bogus or Boo should be his name, not Boone.

Where and when do I vote?

TODAY! In California, you have until 8pm. In the past, if you are in line at 8pm, they will let you vote. BUT don’t count on it! (As they say, vote early and often!)

What should I do before I go?

After you’ve entered your address on either Vote For Change or Vote411, read the voting instructions and special rules for your state.

Voting ID laws vary from state to state, but if you have ID, bring it.

What if something goes wrong?

Not on the voter list? Make sure you’re at the right polling place, then demand a provisional ballot.

If you’re voting on an electronic machine with a paper record, verify that the record is accurate.
