David Oliveira, former Poet Laureate of Santa Barbara, is currently living in Cambodia . He is known for luminous meditative poems that open into psychological depths. David was the publisher of Mille Grazie Press and was co-editor of Solo, a poetry journal. He also produced many poetry readings on the mid-coast, including the Santa Barbara Poetry Series at the Contemporary Arts Forum. David’s poems were published in the collaborative book of loss, A Near Country and is a co-editor of How Much Earth: An Anthology of Fresno Poets.

The Oxnard College Speakers Series presents…
Title: What’s Happening on Earth: A Poetry Reading by Al Young

In celebration of African American History Month, Al Young, Novelist, Editor and California State Poet Laureate will read his original poetry and will speak from his heart and experience about creativity and human survival.

Al Young will be visiting here also Monday April 21: 12-1245pm he will read and discuss poetry and poetics; 130-230p he will read prose and poetry and discuss writing and the writing process. There may be an evening performance with a jazz trio, a slide show, and a panel discussion on arts, academia, and environmental activism.
