Lettre Sauvage Announces Chapbook & Broadside Winner

February 17, 2009

From the website of Lettre Sauvage:

Lettre Sauvage Poetry Contest

2008 Contest Winners

Lettre Sauvage is delighted to announce the winner of its First Annual Poetry Contest: Erin M. Bertram of Saint Louis, Missouri, whose manuscript Windfall was selected by Mark Irwin.

The second place prize was awarded to Kimberly Andrews of State College, Pennsylvania. Her poem, “As In Nowhere, No-One” was chosen by Mark Irwin to be printed as a letterpress broadside.

Winners were announced Saturday, February 14. Erin M. Bertram is the author of five chapbooks, including The Urge to Believe Is Stronger than Belief Itself (Cherry Pie Press, 2008), Body of Water (Thorngate Road, 2007), which received the Frank O’Hara Award, and Febrile (Achiote Press, forthcoming). She is editor of Shadowbox Press. (updated 12/2008)

Fiona Spring has asked me to serve on an editorial board to put together a letterpress journal which will feature some of the entries (if the entrants want to!) and I look forward to reading through the submissions looking for some gems for the journal. I am sure she will be accepting additional work and I will let you know about that here as opportunities like this arise.

So sorry Paul Squires–I was sure you were going to win! Go see his fantabulous poetry, prose, poemthingys and other forms of literary marvelousness  here. And while you’re there, pick up a copy of his book, PuzzleBox! It is a perfect pick-up. Watch for a more thoughtful review here soon.

Oh, I’ll get over it I suppose. I’m sure the winners were worthy. Maybe next year.
